Treatments are listed in alphabetical order:

Bioimpedance Analysis (Body Composition):

Bioimpedance analysis is a machine that helps determine your lean body mass, fat mass, water distribution and cellular communication efficiency.  Used as part of a weight loss program, we can use this machine to help determine your basal metabolic rate (how many calories your body needs to sustain itself)  and your water distribution (are you retaining water, do you have systemic inflammation?).

Once you are losing weight or gaining, depending on your goals, we can determine if it is muscle, fat or water that you are losing and how much.  Then we can change your program to make it more personalized.

Botanical Medicines:

Botanical medicines are ones derived from various parts of plants – roots, stems, leaves and flowers.  These medicines are often in an alcohol or glycerin base and hark back to the earliest origins of medicine.  They may also come in the form or teas, tablets or capsules.

Plant based medicines are incredibly therapeutic and can be individualized to the patient depending on what the needs are.  This is often a good option for children as the liquids are easy to swallow and can be dosed according to weight.

Bowen Therapy:

Bowen therapy is a soft tissue, fascial release technique that originated in Australia.  It is a very gentle and effective technique. Indications include but are not limited to chronic back and joint pain, tendonitis, headaches, migraines and most other musculoskeletal concerns.

For more information on the technique, see www.bowtech.com.

Chelation Therapy:

Chelation therapy is used to removal Heavy Metals from the body. There are different options available and your Naturopathic Doctor will determine the safest and most effective treatment for you.  How much, and which heavy metals you need to chelate will be based on urine element testing.

Diet / Nutritional Therapy:

Author Anthelme Brillat-Savarin wrote: “Tell me what you eat and I will tell you what your are.” Diet is incredibly important to healing from disease and preventing disease itself.  Naturopathic Doctors are perhaps the most educated when it comes to medically specific diets.  Whether it is the Hypoallergenic Diet, the Anti-inflammatory Diet, the Low FODMAP diet, the Ketogenic Diet, the Mediterranean Diet, the SIBO diet, the Paleo Diet  – your Naturopathic Doctor will help you determine which one is best for your individual body type and genetics.

Medical Cannabis:

Medical cannabis may be helpful for some health conditions. The reasons for using medical cannabis are various and results may vary depending on the patient, symptoms, dosage, duration and type of cannabis used.
Common reasons or concerns that patients use medical cannabis for include:

  • Nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy for cancer
  • Muscle stiffness for multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injury patients
  • Joint pain for patients who have arthritis or have injured themselves
  • Chronic pain especially if experiencing neuropathic pain
  • Low appetite and weight loss for people who are being treated for cancer or have AIDS
  • Anxiety – some patients are finding relief while in others it may worsen anxiety

Cannabis is available in a variety of forms including dried plants or oil extracts from Licensed Producers.

Microneedling (Collagen Induction Therapy) Treatments:

Microneedling minimizes fine lines and wrinkles, slows hair loss, improves hair growth and provides acne scar removal.  It does this through a machine that uses tiny needles to stimulate new skin and hair growth through micro-trauma to the epidermis.  As blood flows to the area, the skin remodels itself with new cells.   This remodelling can reawaken hair follicles that have stopped growing, minimize acne scars and result in increased collagen growth – giving a more youthful appearance.

Mistletoe Therapy:

We offer Mistletoe therapy for a variety of health concerns. Health Canada requires further details of this therapy to be learned and discussed with your Naturopathic Doctor to determine options available for your specific health needs. www.helixor.com

Nutraceutical Medicines:

Nutraceuticals are essentially natural medicines that are concentrated into a pill or tablet.  These include vitamins, minerals and extracts from plants that are given at a dose that cannot be attained from food.  An example would be B vitamins.  In nature, B vitamins are present but in small amounts.  However, in larger doses they can help to alleviate symptoms such as fatigue or migraines.

Prolotherapy:

Prolotherapy is used for chronic joint pain and sports injuries. The most common joints to treat are knees and shoulders.

Chronic injuries often stall the healing response. The mechanism of action is to induce an inflammatory reaction to get your bodies own healing mechanism to engage. Prolotherapy stimulates this action. In doing so, there is usually an increase in discomfort for a very short period of time which is completely normal and wanted.  This discomfort is the body recognizing that an injury is there and mounts a healing response.
